Making my day

DSC00665

It was a last minute call to Kuala Lumpur yesterday evening. I did not even have the time to get home to pack a change!

Still catching my breath at plane boarding time from Sibu to Kuching, a gentleman in front entangled the handle of his hand-carried luggage to the seat. He moved back while I stepped forward. While I murmured, “Sorry”, he said with a pleasant smile, “Yan.”

Someone I know? No, not even a clue who he is. For someone to call me “Yan”, it means he must be my classmate. But, he looks so young!

He said, “Robert.” Robert who? Still no clue. Until he said his surname!

Robert was one of my classmates in my fifth form. We have not met after we left school some almost 30 years ago.

He continued, “It is seldom that I could remember classmates, but somehow I was still today and amazingly, I could call out your name just at this moment.”

It really doesn’t take much to make my day.

An old classmate who can call out your name after 30 years. Hearty laughters between loved ones. The meal served in this delightful packing (picture above). The blue sky. The rainbow. Lingering over a steaming hot coffee with friends….

But, I have been caught in the whirlwind of activities lately. Quoting a journalist friend in Pakistan, “It’s hard electioneering…” Yes, I have been bogged down by the sandstorms of life! I have even lost my cool.

But, being remembered by an old classmate made my day! He said he was “still”. What a timely reminder that I must, “Be Still.”

In the journey ahead, I was still. Even when I could not get a seat on an earlier flight from Kuching to Kuala Lumpur, I could still enjoy looking at the people in the airport. And I just missed part of the briefing! Even the light meal in this delightful packing (picture above) made up for my lunch I missed and the dinner!

Indeed, we need to be still to see the blooming flowers, the beautiful rainbow, the warm smiles of loved ones and friends!

Indeed, be still and know whether the candidates you are going to vote in the coming nation’s general election are giving glorious promises for the people or for their self-gratifying desires!

Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.
